Former Players Pay Tribute to The Living Legend.
The Friends of Fracassa initiative was started by former players of Coach Al Fracassa who played for him at Brother Rice and Royal Oak Shrine. These players wanted to find a way to thank Coach Fracassa and to celebrate his retirement. In appreciation for all he has done for his players they also wanted to provide Coach and his wife with financial resources to help them enjoy their retirement. Holding a Tribute Banquet seemed the best way to allow a large number of people to gather and honor Coach Fracassa as well as creating a platform for providing the noted financial support.
The dinner was held on Saturday May 10, 2014 at The Henry – and from all reports it exceeded even the attendees pre-event, lofty expectations. It was a celebration of a legendary Coach, presented by – and from the perspective of – his former players. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of the formal tributes spoke of Coach’s influence as a leader, motivator, father figure and mentor; very little of the discussion dealt with his legendary status as a Michigan high school football coaching icon.
The Friends of Fracassa initiative has operated in cooperation with Brother Rice and Shrine High Schools. Our common goal was to simply provide a way for anyone and everyone to honor a truly great man.
There is also a Tribute Book where former players and friends can send a full page personal message to coach. These pages will be collected and bound in a Tribute Book(s) and given to Coach.
